Commissioning a portrait
Portrait painting is central to my practice. Each portrait commission is a collaboration, focused on creating a painting that captures the likeness and character of the sitter, distilled through careful observation.
The commission process begins with a conversation about ideas and location, whether in the subject’s home, workplace, or in my studio in Bristol, UK. This is the stage where everything is possible and ideas begin to take form.
Before the oil painting begins, I gather the necessary information through drawing from life. Sittings usually take between five and ten hours and are arranged for convenience. These drawings are supported by photography. The finished portrait is then completed in my Bristol studio.
Portrait prices
My portrait commission prices are structured according to the size of the canvas and inclusion of background detail.
The starting price for a head-and-shoulders oil portrait (25× 30 cm) with a simple coloured background is £4,000.

Portraits may be painted on traditional handmade gesso wooden panels, while larger works are painted on fine linen.

Framing
If you would like framing to be included, I work closely with an experienced framer to select high-quality mouldings that complement the finished artwork.
You are, of course, welcome to arrange framing with a framer of your choice if preferred.
Please contact me via email if you would like to discuss commissioning a portrait or have any questions about the process.
