Albert Stannah - Posthumous portrait

“I have given two commissions to Mr Kell, some years apart, to remember my father and years later his father, both from photographs. Both were highly successful, in both cases Laurence listened to my suggestions and acted upon them. I would just mention that I am one of the fourth generation in our family business generations five and six now continuing our traditions. We have a portrait of my great grandfather and now the later two to preserve for posterity. I can with enthusiasm recommend Laurence Kell a delightful character to work with".

"Laurence was recommended to me by an academic art historian. He produced a fine portrait for us of a subject in academic robes. We were so pleased that, when the time came for a second and then a third portrait of other subjects, we did not hesitate, and asked for Laurence to undertake those portraits. As a set they fit together very well, but each is distinctive. In another setting Laurence was commissioned to paint a fourth portrait of a dear friend. Once again, he produced a fine record of this man. When the last subject died, this portrait was reproduced with his obituary in The Times. Laurence is a gracious and intelligent gentleman and he creates compelling pictures. I am happy to commend him". Richard Cross, Wills Hall Association

"We were so lucky to have all three of our children's portraits done so beautifully by Laurence. We will treasure them forever". Mark & Jess Pilcher, Cornwall
"Many years ago, we saw one of Laurence’s portrait paintings hanging in a restaurant in Cornwall and fell in love with it. We spoke about it often and never stopped thinking about the painting. By a serendipitous series of coincidences, I had the great good fortune to meet Laurence on one of his brilliant painting weekends and explained to him how much we loved the portrait. It now hangs in pride of place in our home in London. I still cannot

believe that we have been able to give it a home. We also own a beautiful still life of a cyclamen that we bought at the same time. Both paintings bring enormous pleasure and I cannot recommend Laurence’s work more highly; it has been a pleasure to get to know him".
